LeftoverBolts Copyright & DMCA Policy

DRAFT — NOT LEGAL ADVICE. Prepared for attorney review before launch. Do not publish as-is. Items in [BRACKETS] are placeholders. Last drafted: 2026-10-13.

LeftoverBolts respects intellectual property. We do not host repair manuals. We index basic information (brand, model, document title) and link to documents published by manufacturers and other third parties. This policy follows the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512, including § 512(d) (information location tools).

1. Designated agent

Send copyright notices to our designated agent, registered with the U.S. Copyright Office:

[AGENT NAME or TITLE, e.g., "Copyright Agent"]
Wayland Wenschlag d/b/a LeftoverBolts (sole proprietor)
[MAILING ADDRESS — may be a P.O. box only if permitted; confirm]
Email: [DMCA EMAIL, e.g., [email protected]]
Phone: [PHONE]
U.S. Copyright Office DMCA Directory registration no.: [DMCA-XXXXXXX] (expires [DATE — renew every 3 years])

2. Takedown notice (17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), applied via § 512(d)(3))

Your written notice must include:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature (or that of a person authorized to act for the owner);
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work claimed infringed (or a representative list if multiple);
  3. Identification of the link or reference on LeftoverBolts claimed to lead to infringing material, with information reasonably sufficient to locate it (e.g., the LeftoverBolts page URL and the linked destination URL);
  4. Your name, address, phone number, and email;
  5. A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
  6. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act on behalf of the owner.

Notices that substantially comply will be acted on expeditiously — we will remove or disable the link. Knowingly material misrepresentations may result in liability under § 512(f).

3. Counter-notice (§ 512(g))

If you submitted a link that we removed and you believe it was removed by mistake or misidentification, send our agent:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature;
  2. Identification of the material/link removed and where it appeared before removal;
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification;
  4. Your name, address, and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if outside the U.S., any district in which LeftoverBolts may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice or their agent.

We will forward the counter-notice to the complainant and may restore the link in 10 to 14 business days after receipt unless the complainant notifies us that it has filed a court action seeking to restrain the activity. (Note: currently all links are curated by LeftoverBolts, not user-submitted; counter-notice applies if user submissions are added.)

4. Repeat-infringer policy

In appropriate circumstances we will terminate the accounts or access of users (and stop indexing sources) that are subject to repeated valid notices. [ATTORNEY: define threshold, e.g., 3 valid strikes in 12 months.]

5. Our own linking practices

We link only to official/manufacturer or otherwise authorized sources, do not frame or embed linked documents in a way that obscures their source, and remove links on notice or when we learn a source is infringing ("red flag" knowledge, § 512(d)(1)).
